How to Revamp your Living Room in 8 Easy Steps – without Redecorating!

In this article:

Get your Sofas Recovered!

We’re sure you saw this coming… But really, sofa recovering is a fantastic way to quickly transform your living space. Out with the old and in with the new, replace your plain old sofa covers with a print or something with a bit more of an edge. Get rid of drab, worn stained covers and exchange them with a beautiful vibrant fabric, we’ve got loads to choose from!

Looking for a Quicker Fix? Use a Throw

If you’re looking to revamp your space in closer to 24 hours then a throw is a great quick fix. Throws come in many wonderful shapes, prints, colours and sizes. Buy a couple, throw them over your sofa and voilà, a quick effortless transformation. Bonus – throws will also hide the marks and stains on your sofa covers that seem impossible to get out (you could always try our eco cleaning tips here for removing marks and stains).

Scatter Cushions

Not everyone is a throw person, if this is the case for you, purchase a few statement scatter cushions instead. Cleverly placed scatter cushions can still hide marks and stains and a bold, contrasting fabric can add a little pop to a dull looking room. Did you know we make custom scatter cushions at My Sofa Covers? Contact us for some fabric samples and your quote today.

Add a Rug

Perhaps it’s the carpet that is the problem. If your floor or carpet looks marked and a little dull, give it some more life with a beautiful rug. You can go patterned or plain, textured or woven, the choice is yours!

Change your Lighting Features

Take a look at your lighting. Do you have any lamps? Putting a tall floor lamp with a gorgeous lamp shade in the corner of a room can instantly make a room cosier at night. Looking for a more industrial look? Exchange your bog standard light fitting, bulb and shade for a rope fitting and giant Edison style bulb to instantly ramp up the style.

Change your Curtains

If you’re happy with the way your sofa and soft furnishings look and it’s more the surrounding space that is the problem, try changing up your curtains. Swap out your to-the-sill curtains with some luxurious floor curtains, or change the fabric to something more eye-catching. We make curtains here too, so get in touch to see our vast range of fabrics.

Hang a Large Mirror

It’s amazing how much a mirror can change the ambience of a room. Mirrors can make a room look much larger than they actually are. If you can find a large one with a fabulous frame the addition of a mirror can make a room look much grander too.

Create a Feature Gallery Wall

Always liked the idea of a feature wall but don’t like the permanency of a wallpaper? Buy loads of frames from charity shops, Amazon, or your favourite local frame shop in different sizes. Fill them with photos and your favourite prints and hang them in a cluster covering the wall you want to make the feature. It’s cost-effective, easy to change and doesn’t require picking up a paintbrush or hanging wallpaper.

Finally, Bring the Outside in

Turn your front room into a garden room and fill it with beautiful plants. Plants can quickly make a room fresher, brighter and more pleasant to be in. Just make sure that if you have small children or pets you check the plants are non-toxic!
