8 Ways to Give Your Home an Interior Refresh on a Budget

There's no need to break the bank to give your home a fresh new look. With a little creativity and some elbow grease, you can achieve the interior design of your dreams without blowing your budget.

Here are 8 ways to get started:

  1. Replace your existing, or add some, curtains

Curtains are a quick and easy way to change the look of a room. In a lot of cases a new set of curtains can make a room feel instantly more luxurious, plus the extra insulation will help keep the heat in (cost of living crisis, is that you!?)

There is a surprising amount to consider when it comes to curtains. Curtain style, the curtain pole, lining type… Whatever your desired new interior look may be, a fresh set of drapes is the perfect way to fast track your way to the end result.

You could buy some fabric to make your own or there are plenty of cheap options on the market. But, if you're looking for a quality set of made to measure curtains at a reasonable price look no further as MY Sofa Covers have just launched our made to measure curtains service.

If you’re replacing some existing curtains make sure you wash and donate your old ones.

  1. Sofa Covers, obviously!

You know our specialty so of course we were going to suggest it! Give your sofa a new lease on life with some new covers.

Our tailor made replacement sofa covers are loved by everyone who places an order (we have over 100 5* reviews on Google!).

We do only make replacement sofa covers for Multiyork furniture however, so if you have another brand you’re looking to recover try a local upholsterer.

Check out our previous blog post for ideas on what to do with your old covers.

  1. Freshen up with a lick of paint

A fresh coat of paint is one of the quickest and cheapest ways to transform a room. When choosing paint colors, be sure to consider the overall mood you want to create in the space. For example, light colors will make a room feel airy and open, while dark colors can make a room feel cozy and intimate.

  1. Refurnish with preloved furniture

Keep an eye on Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, Freecycle, community pages and browse in charity shops for secondhand furniture going cheap or free. There are some absolute gems to be found!

Check out Pinterest for some wonderful furniture upcycling ideas. You never know you might create something you are truly proud of as well as enhancing your living space.

  1. Rugs

Another great and inexpensive way to change the look of a room. Where possible, we love to encourage restoration or buying preloved but you can also find plenty of affordable options at IKEA or other budget home stores. Just be sure to measure the space before you buy so you know what size rug you need.

  1. Accessories

Probably the easiest and most inexpensive way to change the colour scheme of a room is to add some throws and scatter cushions. Search charity shops and markets for unique pieces that will add character to your space. You could keep an eye out for some decorative items such as vases and sculptures too.

  1. Light it up

A crucial element in any room design. Anyone who insists on using lamps instead of the big light understands how effectively lighting can change the whole aesthetic of a room.

There are some pretty reasonable options available too. So if you want to change the look of your space without spending a lot of money, shop for some new lamps and light fixtures. Just be sure to read the reviews before you buy anything to make sure it's good quality and donate or sell anything you're replacing that’s still in good working order.

  1. Wall Art

A very easy and often inexpensive way to change the look of your home. Find some beautiful second hand art, commission an artsy friend or get some personal photos printed. You can brighten a space, give it a cosy feel and make it 100% unique to you just with some art and a few picture hooks.

There are plenty of ways to give your home an interior refresh on a budget—you just have to get creative! With a little bit of elbow grease and some imagination, you can achieve the home of your dreams without breaking the bank.
